Everthus the Deadbeats Album Release Show at Spin! Join us on Saturday, February 23, for the official release of Everthus the Deadbeats John Kill and the Microscopic Lullaby! The album release show will be at Spin in Broad Ripple, and will feature Arrah and The Ferns, Early Day Miners, and Everything NOW! Oh, and the Deadbeats will be playing too. Goodbye 2007, Hello 2008! We've had a great 2007, but 2008 is shaping up to be our best year ever. Look for new releases from Everthus the Deadbeats, Arrah and the Ferns, and Marla Hansen. We're also working on a major project from Christian Kiefer, Matthew Gerken and Jeff Pitcher called Of Great and Mortal Men: Forty Three Songs About Forty Three Presidencies (more about this later- keep your ears to the ground. Oh, and we'll be getting those 7 inches out that we promised a few months back. |

Marla Hansen Sings with Sufjan on We're excited to announce that Marla Hansen sings a little tune with Sufjan Stevens called "Ring Them Bells" on the movie soundtrack for "I'm Not There". Maybe we should throw a little shindig to showcase some of this talent." So that's what we did. The first Indy Label Festival Festival was held about a year ago at the Big Car Gallery. I'm happy to report that we've decided to make it a recurring event, and the Indy Label Festival Vol. 2 will be held on August, 24 at Locals Only. The event will have a sampling of artists from Indianapolis based labels Joyful Noise Recordings, Standard Recording Company, Asthmatic Kitty Records, and Underwater Tea Party. We've also got Upland Brewing Company and Nuvo Newsweekly on board as sponsors for this event. In addition to the tasty hopped beverages from Upland, we'll also have a full spread of food from Locals - all included free with admission. This is a good way for people to become acquainted with some of the artists that the labels in Indianapolis have been working hard to export and beam to the rest of the world. |

R.I.P: BIGBIGCar We're sad to see them go, but Big Big Car is no more. They played a glorious last set at the Melody Inn last night. David Adamson will be focusing his efforts on grandpall jookabox. Check out Scientific Cricket (out now on Joyful Noise Recordings) and keep your eyes for one last tremor from the grave: we'll be releasing a split 7" from Big Big Carand grandpall jookabox in November. |

Standard Recording Company Welcomes Marla Hansen We're proud to announce that Marla Hansen has joined the Standard roster! Marla has appeared on numerous albums from Sufjan Stevens, My Brightest Diamond, Onieda, and The New Pornographers, and now she is stepping onto center stage with the release of Wedding Day. We'll be kicking things off with a national re-release of Marla's debut EP, Wedding Day on September 4th. You'll have a chance to see her during her national tour with Denison Witmer in September through October (exact dates coming soon on our Tour page). Wedding Day combines Marla's solacing voice with a plucked viola along with full instrumentation and vocal help from her friends Sufjan Stevens, and My Brightest Diamond, to create what The Onion calls a, "esoteric, vintage sound that's ultimately irresistible." More Animals of the Arctic Licensed to Tangled Up! Recordings / One Little Indian We're happy to announce that the One Little Indian imprint, Tangled Up! Recordings, has licensed the current and future albums from More Animals of the Arctic. Tangled Up! Recordings is set to release An Appendix of Whaling Terms in September to Europe and the rest of the world outside of North America. The Tangled Up! re-release will feature a bonus track not available on the North American release. |

Chad Serhal's Debut Album Shipping Soon! Chad Serhal has played in Calibretto, Harley Poe, and Everything,Now! Now he's recorded his own album, and we're proud to be releasing it. A Very Standard Christmas We're proud to announce the release of the very first Standard Recording Company Christmas album. A Very Standard Christmas will be released on November 28th (the same day as Everthus the Deadbeats' Addicts Stuck in Traffic is released into the world), and will feature brand new, never released tracks from BIG BIG Car, Arrah and the Ferns, Everything Now!, This Story, Everthus the Deadbeats, Harley Poe, and More Animals of the Arctic. Additionally, A Very Standard Christmas will feature two tracks from Standard newcomers Chad Serhal and Dean Plays Hardball along with songs from our friends The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band, Elephant Micah, and Red Queen Hypothesis. The worm uses a flaw in the software that runs message boards to delete files from servers and the company hosting our site thought it better to shut down our message board before they lost all their data. Standard / Woodenman Records MMS Showcase We're teaming up with our good friends at Wooden Man Records and The Hideaway on Hillside to put on one heck of a showcase as part of this year's Midwest Music Summit. Come on out at 8pm on Friday, August 13th. Castle Oldchair, Everything, Now!, Archer Avenue and Woodenman artists The Lou Reeds and The Plus will be playing. Harely Poe might even show up for a solo performance. The pitchers are on us. |

Everything, Now! to Release Album on Standard It's official: after signing the contract in an alley behind Radio Radio this past Saturday, Standard will be releasing "Police, Police!" from Muncie based Everything, Now! Everything, Now! is in the studio with engineer/ producer Tyler Watkins putting the final touches on the album. The band just returned from Toronto where they played a show with Castle Oldchair. The purchaser of Sad Pants will be encouraged to use the CD-R to make an extra copy of Sad Pants for themselves or to pass it along to a friend. The CD-R will be silk-screened with the artist and release name along with a statement encouraging support of the artist and independent record stores. You WILL be impressed You know, a lot of things have happened recently that would make for good conversation when you see us at the Christmas Party (too subtle?). First off, Skyscraper Magazine ran reviews for Miranda Sound, Calibretto, and The Robot Ate Me in their most recent issue. Miranda Sound also had a review in this months issue of Amplifier Magazine. You can read what they had to say in our press section. They're coming by vans and the occasional Geo Metro. Tour dates for Castle Oldchair are filling up for January and February, you should also look for tour dates for Chad Allen to start popping up in the coming weeks. Digital Distribution Agreement We've found a lot of information on the Internet about digital downloads and mp3's. We decided to learn more about this whole downloading thing. After a search far and wide for the best digital download provider of our music, we have entered a non-exclusive agreement with Digital Rights Agency. This means that everything we've released will be available at the following sites: Music Net, Audio Lunchbox, Napster, Rhapsody, Music Match, Virgin Wireless, and more to come. We'll keep you posted...and we'll also keep selling physical copies with nifty packaging. |

Castle Oldchair's Van & Review Yeah, it seems a little trivial, but Castle Oldchair and band have themselves a nice new (used) van to get them from show to show. You can see a picture of Castle, and said van here. Why is this important? It's important because Castle has some shows in the very near future. For those of you in the Madison, WI area - Castle will be doing a performance/interview on 89.9FM WORT at 2:00pm on Friday Sept 12th. Be sure to listen. ..And finally, Castle's show at the Kitty Cat Klub in Minneapolis has been deemed an "A List Recommended Event" by the Minneapolis City Pages. Proof is offered here. |

Standard Staff Add 17,225th Layer of Paint to World's Largest Ball of Paint Everyone at Standard contributed towards the World's Largest Ball Of Paint* by adding the 17,225th coat of paint to the ball of paint. In case you don't know (and really, why should you?) the world's largest ball of paint resides in Alexandria, IN. Everyone here at Standard decided to track it down. Although we had only hoped to get a glance of it, we were also asked by creator Mike Carmicheal to add a layer of paint to the ball- the 17,225th layer to be exact. Except for its baseball core, the ball is made entirely of paint; weighs in at 1,100 pounds and has a circumference of 5-6 feet. (* it's the unofficial world's largest ball of paint as there doesn't seem to be a "Largest Ball of Paint" competition. If you are wondering- like we were- why anyone would make a huge ball of paint, no one knows.) |

Great Miranda Sound Performances Coming Up Miranda Sound will performing with Jets To Brazil this coming Monday (July 28th) at Little Brother's (18+)in Columbus, OH. The show starts at 8pm and tickets are only $10 through Ticketmaster. They will also be playing with Local H on Friday, August 8 in Indianapolis (21+) as part of the Midwest Music Summit. A Cornucopia Of News First off, The Dead By Dawn EP from Calibretto is out. You can go to your favorite record store and pick one up, or if they are out, do yourself a favor and order it from the friendly record store person. You can also (as always) order them on our catalog page if you like. In other Calibretto news - We also now have the Don't Go In The Woods 7" available for sale through the website for $5 POSTAGE PAID. Visit the catalog page for more info. Many of those who pre-ordered Dead By Dawn received a limited edition version of the 7" on red vinyl, what is available for sale now is on regular ol' black vinyl. If you don't have a copy of the EP or the record, you are in luck. You can get both for the extra-special price of $12.00. "Where can I get that?" you ask. Check the catalog page. Chad Allen, bassist for Calibretto, has written some songs and was nice enough to transfer them to a playable format and share them with us. New Friends We are pleased as punch to tell you about our new friends at Swim Slowly Records. We will be distributing the Swim Slowly catalog as of May 20th.
